We have asked J Sainsbury Plc to prove that polluted stormwater isn’t being allowed to leave the car park of its store in Kenton, NW London. When it rains the water will wash oil and other pollutants into drains that lead to the Wealdstone Brook. We are waiting for the company to demonstrate that it prevents this from happening. This could be using a device that intercepts the water and removes oil etc. We also need assuring that the interceptor is regularly emptied and maintained. Unless this happens the interceptor will be a source of pollution.
The company’s website says “we are addressing and managing all areas of water vulnerability in our business to help drive toward water neutrality by 2040.” We want them to show that their stewardship extends to protecting the local river.
