Thames Water has revealed that 246 sewer overflows don’t have Event Duration Monitors, almost 40% of the total. Last year we were told all overflows had monitors. We can only guess how many discharges aren’t being recorded. The screenshot below shows part of the Wealdstone Brook catchment. The 3 orange circles are the sewer overflows Thames Water tells the public about. We now know there are 3x that number (the red stars, which we added). Thames Water says these will be fitted with EDMs by the end of 2023. Thames Water’s data for 2022 is here. We’ve been highlighting this problem for a while and gave the story to Channel 4’s Dispatches last year (from 4 min 53 sec in).
